A series of tapestries woven at Textile Centre Haslach. During the residency, I explored checked patterns and experimented with breaking their regularity through hands-on interventions, such as cutting floats to create visual and tactile irregularities. This process led me to consider how floats could become an integral part of the pattern itself, and what new effects might emerge once they were cut. In doing so, I dived into the magic of layered construction: what might be revealed beneath the cut floats, and how might different materials behave once the floated areas were disrupted?


By repurposing pre-consumer waste materials sourced from a tufted wool carpet company based in the Netherlands, I was able to integrate high-quality leftover wool yarns from industrialised production systems into my woven artworks. 


Using these yarns, I explored bold weave structures alongside unique colour blended yarns made by plying multiple yarns together. Paper yarns and bold, mono-coloured linen yarns were also integrated to creating tactile, graphic designs that highlighted the contrasting qualities of wool, paper and linen.

A commission by Studio Ellie Maya for The Usual Hotel in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.


Working with two industrial waste streams, a customised Samurai Spirit design was created using locally sourced deadstock braided materials and woven sun screen materials. 


The hotel branding was subtly integrated into the design to demonstrate the sustainable ethos of the hotel. The custom Samurai Spriti is located in the ground floor foyer of the hotel which sets the tone for guest experience and showcases how art can play a part in regenerative hospitality.

The concept of a traditional Japanese lantern is transformed whilst using the same elements of light, paper and wood.


The ancient hand braiding technique of Kumihimo allows for colourful paper yarns to be braided to bind wooden elements to create volumes. The LED light flows like an illuminous yarn dancing in its wooden cage.

The Ghost Urchin is made of 10 panels woven with ghost fishing gear retrieved from The North Sea by Ghost Diving and Healthy Seas. By untangling, unravelling, sorting and cleaning the Ghost nets, this ‘immortal material’ can be prepared for weaving. With each net having a distinct texture, coarseness and colouring, it is possible to express tactile qualities similar to that of a real sea urchin.

An abandoned chair was revived using a pile of damaged garments destined for landfill. By unpicking the archaeology of the chair, the bone structure was revealed to be redressed once again. 

Reclaimed synthetic yarns were machine braided at the Textiel Museum Tilburg where it was possible to add strength and mix qualities of these yarns. Using the techniques of hand tufting, hand embroidery and machine embroidery over and around the braids, I was able to “paint” the design of my body print on the chair.
