Allemansrätten, is a right protected by Swedish law that gives people the freedom to roam in nature and to forage for food offered by the lands. Foraging is a uniquely primal experience but the forest isn’t a supermarket; it’s more of a condiments collection that supplements your daily diet.
This project is a celebration of Birch as a material and as food. The delicate physical activity of whittling helps to focus the mind and forces you to slow down. My practice of active mindfulness through woodworking is presented to the public as form exploration of cutlery to inspire and encourage others to try it.
This public intervention also showcases the edible qualities of Birch through visual maps that shares safe harvesting techniques of Birch alongside recipes from foragers around the world to the local residents of Nyköping.
